Type rating EMBRAER

The Embraer 175 is a twin-engine regional jet, typically configured for 76–88 passengers. It is widely used by regional airlines, especially in North America and Europe. The E175 type rating typically also qualifies pilots to fly the E170 (with difference training) due to the high level of commonality between the two.
1. Preliminary Requirements
- License: Valid CPL(A) or ATPL(A), with Instrument Rating (IR) and completed MCC.
- Minimum experience: At least 70 hours as PIC (Pilot in Command), if required.
- Medical certificate: Valid Class 1.
- English level: ICAO Level 4 or higher.
2. Ground School (Theoretical Phase)
Duration: Approximately 240 hours, including 180 hours of basic theoretical training and 60 hours of classroom instruction on aircraft systems and procedures.
Objectives: To gain a solid understanding of the E175’s operational philosophy and systems, in a fully glass cockpit and highly automated environment.
Key topics include:
- Aircraft systems architecture: propulsion (General Electric CF34), electrical, hydraulic, bleed air, pressurization, avionics.
- Embraer operational philosophy (highly automated, with Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitoring – ECAM).
- FMS (Flight Management System) and MCDU.
- Use of FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control).
- Overhead panel and system management via digital menus.
- Use of QRH, SOP, FCOM, MEL.
- Performance, weight & balance.
- Normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures.
- CRM (Crew Resource Management) and crew coordination.
3. Five Additional CBT + FBS Missions (Computer-Based Training + Fixed Base Simulator)
- Interactive study of aircraft systems.
- Procedural training on a fixed-base simulator.
- Practice of cabin flows, SOPs, and pilot interaction.
- Familiarization with the cockpit, EFIS instruments, automation, and FMC.
4. FFS – Full Flight Simulator
Duration: 40 hours (10 sessions, including 9 training and 1 check session), in crew pairing.
Contents:
- Execution of realistic line flights (LOFT).
- Normal procedures and emergency management.
- Engine failure, fire, TCAS RA, windshear, RTO.
- Adverse weather conditions (CAT II/III, snow, heavy rain).
- Focus on automation, workload management, ATC communication, and CRM.
- Preparation for the final skill test.
5. Skill Test (Proficiency Check)
Simulation with a TRE examiner.
Verification of technical and operational skills.
Upon successful completion, issuance of the Embraer 170/175 Type Rating.
6. Base Training (if required)
- 6 circuits (touch-and-go) on an actual E170/175 aircraft.
- Required for pilots without previous experience on real jet aircraft.
- May be replaced by ZFTT (Zero Flight Time Training) if authorized.
7. Documentation and Issuance
The ATO submits the training results to the aviation authority (e.g., ENAC, EASA, FAA).
The type rating is recorded on the pilot's license.
Final Notes
- The Embraer 170/175 shares the same type rating.
- With additional training, you can extend the rating to the 190/195.
- An excellent choice for those wishing to work with high-profile regional airlines and begin with modern jets and a fully glass cockpit.
