Type-rating B737


1. Prerequisites
License: CPL(A)/ATPL(A) with IR (Instrument Rating) and MCC (Multi-Crew Cooperation).
Flight experience: Typically a minimum of 70 hours as PIC (Pilot in Command).
Medical certificate: Valid Class 1 medical.
English proficiency: At least ICAO Level 4.
2. Ground School (Theoretical Training)
Duration: Approximately 240 hours, either in-class or online.
Main topics:
- Aircraft systems (FMS, FMC, autopilot, hydraulics, avionics, etc.)
- MEL (Minimum Equipment List)
- Performance and limitations.
- Normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures.
- Familiarization with checklists, QRH, and Boeing documentation.
- Weight & Balance, flight planning.
- Cockpit procedures.
3. Five additional CBT and FBS (Computer-Based Training + Fixed Base Simulator)
- Interactive systems training.
- Initial hands-on cockpit procedure practice using the Fixed Base Simulator (non-motion).
- Emphasis on procedural flow and CRM.

4. FFS – Full Flight Simulator (Simulator Sessions)
Duration: Around 40 hours (divided into 10 sessions, 9 training sessions, plus 1 checkride, usually in pairs).
Includes:
- Normal and abnormal procedures.
- Takeoffs, landings, rejected takeoffs, engine failure, low visibility operations.
- CRM training, automation management, ATC communications.
- LOFT (Line-Oriented Flight Training): realistic line-operation scenarios.
5. Skill Test (Proficiency Check)
- Final check with an approved examiner.
- Upon successful completion, the B737 Type Rating is officially endorsed on the ATPL/CPL.
6. Base Training (if required)
6 takeoff and landing circuits on a real aircraft (for pilots without prior jet experience).
Sometimes replaced by ZFTT (Zero Flight Time Training), if the pilot is experienced. Four landing on line-flight with an examiner on CM1 side.
7. Final Documentation
Registration and approval of the type rating with the relevant aviation authority (e.g., ENAC, EASA).
Additional Notes:
The type rating can be conducted on B737-300/400/500 (Classic), B737-600/700/800/900 (NG), or B737 MAX. In some cases, differences training allows for transition between variants.
